  Interesting question! I think this is very hard to answer as it would depend on what your measure of ‘advanced’ is. If it is development of language (or communication) or manipulation of tools then perhaps we could have considered ourselves more advanced historically. If it is manipulation of our environment and development of technology, then we are more advanced now (and will likely to continue to make gains)
