If there is reflux, where the contents of the stomach including the acid go back up the oesophagus, this can cause damage to the oesophagus because it doesn’t have that protection.
Reflux can be caused by too much acid in the stomach. Also if there’s too much acid for a long period of time it can cause stomach ulcers.
