In some people, the pain is in the eye itself and could be because of an eye injury or a high pressure in the eye or some other cause, and should be seen by an eye doctor. In many cases, people can have headaches that affect the vision. Sometimes this is because the area of the brain that is affected by the headache is also the part of the brain that receives input from the eyes. So some people with a headache called migraine can have the experience of seeing zig-zag lines in their vision before their headache starts.
