      Nobody knows the answer. Language doesn’t fossilize so we can’t use usual paleological dating methods to work it out.

      Chimpanzees don’t have language like us so presumably our ancestor some 7 million years ago didn’t either. Some time between now and then language evolved, most likely in a gradual fashion from other precursors in the way animals communicate.
