      This is a great question. Certainly the recent advances in Palaeo-genetics shows that we mated with Neanderthals and a species called the Denisovans. Palaeo-genetics also shows that Neanderthals and Denisovans also seemed to have mated with each other. Although to what extent this cross breeding occurred we do not know. It may not have been extensive, but it does seem to have happened.
