• Question: Is it quit scary seeing dead animals

      No, not really. It’s more interesting than scary, but I have been working with specimens for a long time (about 15 years), and you get used to it. The scary bits are if I find a pest infestation or a flood in the stores or something. We do work hard to keep our specimens safe, and there are lots of pest insects like clothes moths or carpet beetles that would love to eat some animal skins or pinned insects.

      My scariest museum experience was when I was a student volunteer at the Natural History Museum in London. I took a shortcut through the dinosaur gallery on my way home. The lights had been turned off, but the robot velociraptors were still moving. That made me jump!
