• Question: How long do you think it will be until we can take somebody’s DNA and clone them?

      I think this is not very far at all from being possible. Dolly the sheep was successfully cloned back in 1996! Other animal species have been cloned since then, but it varies in how hard it is to clone certain species. Humans and primates were considered to be very hard to clone, but macaques were cloned just last year! Its still very difficult though, even taking advantage of some new techniques only 2 healthy babies were born from 60 surrogate mothers! So, technically I think we more or less have the technology, and this could be successfully achieved within the next few years.
      We need to think about the high risk of poor health for the clone (probably shorter lifespan, possible defects to important organs), as well as the many failures surrogate pregnancies that would likely happen. Beyond that, we would have to consider how these people would be treated (or even used!) in their families and society.
      All in all I think the biggest question here is if we should do something like this, whether we can or not!
