One of the main differences between how humans see and how dogs see is about colour. To see colour, humans have three different types of cells known as cones, one for receiving red light, one for blue and one for green. By mixing the amounts of light we get in each of these cells we can see a whole range of colours. In dogs though, there are only two types of cones, one for yellow and one for blue. This means that dogs can’t see as big a range of colours. In comparison, there are some insects and birds that have a higher number of cones so can see even more colours than we can!
