I teach for a University and used to do basic genetic research in a lab. Now I try to get the science we know to be used effectively in healthcare, so the research I’m involved with is more applied. For example, at the moment I’m trying to work-out how to effectively communicate genetic test results to doctors and patients so that they use the information appropriately. I use the same sorts of approaches that I used in the lab though; asking questions, gathering and analysing data, etc.

I am a PhD student at a university but do all of my work at a research institute which is devoted entirely to biology and specifically bioinformatics research. It’s amazing to be surrounded by so many people who are experts in the area that I’m interested in, it means I’m always learning and there’s always someone who you can ask for advice and ideas.

I teach at the University. Most of the research I do is related to how to keep the sonographers safe when scanning, so that they don’t get injured shoulders and wrists or related to educating sonographers and using simulators to teach students.
