Yes, I do! Most areas of science (including genetics) need a thorough understanding of statistical techniques, when it is appropriate to use them, and how to interpret the results. It’s something I have had to work at though as I have no formal training beyond maths A level.
Maths is often called the language of science and it is important for most sciences. However you don’t have to be brilliant at maths to be a scientist. Some sciences like physics, chemistry and computer science lean more towards “pure” maths, and other like some aspects of biology, psychology and sociology lean more towards statistics. I particularly like statistics.
