The egg came before the chicken!
We know this because eggs are found in a wide variety of animals.
More specifically though, even eggs very similar to chicken eggs can be found in other species. All birds lay eggs (e.g. staying with domestic species, think of duck or goose eggs) as well as most other reptiles (though lizards and snakes have switched between egg laying and live birth multiple times throughout their evolution!).
