Favourite thing to do in my job: My favourite thing to do in my job is to look at the cool things that bacteria are doing down the microscope
I am an Australian who moved to the UK in 2014
I’m an Australian who has been living and working as a Research Scientist at Imperial College London for almost 5 years. I enjoy getting outdoors as much as I can to go cycling, swimming or running. I also love going to see live music at venues in London or elsewhere and going to music festivals in the summer. My favourite music festivals in the UK so far have been Glastonbury and Boomtown.
I am a research scientist who is trying to figure out new ways to kill bacteria
One of the major issues which is facing humanity is the rising levels in antibacterial resistance which means that infections that were previously easy to treat are again becoming deadly. I am currently working to understand which tactics bacteria use to kill one another in order to find new antibiotics. My work involves many different things with bacteria and has allowed me to learn about about just how fascinating and smart bacteria are!
My Typical Day
My typical day is mainly spent in the research lab
I work in a research lab at Imperial College each day. I will usually be doing experiments with bacteria themselves – growing them and looking at them on agar plates or under the microscope, or working with manipulating their DNA to perform experiments to understand them better.
My favourite CHRISTMAS LECTURE memory is:
To be honest I have not had the chance to watch the Christmas lectures before as I usually go back Australia to be with family for Christmas but I will be tuning in with great excitement this year to the lectures!
